The Lex 100 verdict on Boyes Turner
‘Friendly firm’ Boyes Turner boasts a ‘variety of work across numerous practice areas and good client contact’. ‘Leading a client meeting’ and ‘assisting on a personal injury claim where the client had been in a life-changing car accident’ are examples of work trainees can expect at the Reading firm. Recruits speak of an ‘excellent work/life balance; we generally don’t have to work late and there is no pressure or expectation to work past normal office hours’. It therefore comes as no surprise that the firm is top of the Lex 100 winner table in this category. Respondents were impressed by the assessment day, where ‘the other trainees were really friendly and spoke very highly of everyone at the firm’. Two more Lex 100 winner gongs have been awarded for social life and vacation scheme. Trainees reminisced about the ‘Friday night drinks (pre-pandemic) which were a great chance to meet other people in the firm and a great way to chat with partners’. There is also a monthly book club, regular theatre trips and sporting activities! Back at their desks, trainees are happy to ‘have a lot of client contact and involvement with high-quality fee-earning work’. As with any firm, it’s not all sunshine and roses at Boyes Turner; we heard that ‘they aren’t always great at taking into consideration your seat preferences; this is often allocated due to business need’. Diversity and inclusion could be improved and ‘adapting to remote working and trying to get the same client exposure’ has been difficult. To work at a firm which has a ‘great team spirit’ and where ‘all lawyers are approachable’, take a closer look at Boyes Turner.
