Editor's Welcome

Editor's Welcome

Welcome to the 12th edition of The Lex 100 – and we’re bigger and better than ever.

The year may change but our work doesn’t – Lex has once again published the most in-depth survey of trainee solicitors across the land, gathering anonymous feedback on their training contract experiences to compile a trusted, well-sourced review of 173 different law firms in the UK.

This spring, over 3,000 trainees completed our online survey, and the detailed insight which they have provided has been collated and edited by the Lex 100 team to form the firm profiles contained in these pages.

Trainees score the Lex 100 firms in 13 different categories, ranging from job satisfaction, client contact and work quality, to vacation schemes and international secondments for those firms who offer such placements.

The trainees also provided qualitative feedback, and you will see that we have quoted their responses frequently to bring you as many trainee views as possible.

First, see the Lex 100 Winners pages for the standout performers of 2016/17, and then read on to peruse the individual firm profiles.

The featured firm profiles also contain information from The Legal 500, our sister publication. The combination of Lex’s trainee feedback and the information on firm performances sourced by The Legal 500 serves as a great introduction to the training contract providers in the market.

Our law school and career clinic pages explain step-by-step how to progress from student to qualified lawyer, and this year we have added an article on the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme for foreign-qualified lawyers seeking to gain solicitor status in England and Wales.

Our useful firm comparison tool allows users to filter The Lex 100 survey results according to their own criteria and preferences. We also bring you all the essential legal market news relevant to aspiring lawyers.

We are on Facebook and Twitter, and you can sign up to our weekly newsletter from our homepage – please get in touch if you have any queries about The Lex 100.

We wish you the best of luck for this academic year, and we hope you find The Lex 100 to be a useful resource!
