Irwin Mitchell is a national UK firm with 11 offices across the country. The firm has been busy of late, having launched a high-profile marketing campaign while also acquiring several small firms to increase its market share. This ‘pioneering approach’ extends to the structure of the firm’s training contract, with the ‘option to stream your contract to work solely in either personal legal services or business legal services’.

50 trainee positions for a 2018 start are waiting to be filled. Trainees complete four six-month seats, and will experience some of the firm’s premier practice groups including Court of Protection, commercial litigation and personal injury.

Recent Irwin Mitchell cases include recovering £12m in settlement for a claimant who suffered cerebral palsy at birth following a failure in monitoring by midwifery staff, and acting on the £54m refinancing of the Encon Group.

Some of Irwin Mitchell’s strongest performances in this year’s survey came in the living up to expectations, quality of work, client contact and diversity categories. Trainees speak glowingly of the ‘opportunities for career progression’ at a firm with a ‘focus on training and development’.

If the firm were a fictional character it would be… Baloo (The Jungle Book) – large, friendly and wise, with years of experience.
