This will be DWF’s first international office, and is being opened due to demand from the firm’s existing developer, contractor and insurer clients already based in the region. These clients, primarily centred in the construction, energy and transport sectors, are eager to obtain enhanced services on the ground in Dubai as a result of the multi-sector investment boom the city and wider region continues to experience.
The office will initially launch as a team of four, with two partners. Chris Ryan has been a DWF partner since 2011 and maintains an insurance practice, primarily advising on property, construction and engineering matters. Chris will lead the team, and will be ably supported by construction partner Steven Hunt, a recent hire from Holland & Knight with over 11 years’ experience practicing in the UAE. Completing the group is Fernando Ortega, previously a consultant in Holland & Knight’s international arbitration and construction practice, and DWF professional liability lawyer Jeremy Speller. Colleagues in the UK will also provide on-going assistance to the Dubai-based group.
No trainee positions are being offered in Dubai just yet, but Lex has been informed that this is something the firm will explore in the future.
