If you are looking for the happiest trainees in the UK then you will find them at the firms in this table. This year after several years of grappling it would appear that the regional firms have regained their crown although the London firms have given them a run for their money. Nottingham-based firm Browne Jacobson takes pole position this year, with the combination of its 'great reputation, good variety of different areas of law, top-flight training and abundance of client contact'. In second place US firm Debevoise & Plimpton trainees have little complain about, stating that 'trainees are respected, our efforts are appreciated and we are made to feel like valuable assets to the firm'. In third place comes Pemberton Greenish, a niche property firm based in a genteel Chelsea neighbourhood. Its happy trainees enjoy the fact that they are trusted with 'lots of independence and responsibility early on in our training' and their biggest moan is that the 'trainee salary doesn't last very long on the Kings Road'! Forbes offers 'good quality of work but without the 'City' law firm culture', whilst Andrew Jackson makes a 'conscious effort to be innovative with projects' and gives trainees 'a good balance between commercial and private client work'. Popular Farrer & Co has 'a blend of old-school charm combined with increasing modernism' that appeals to its trainees, whilst North West firm Farleys Solicitors blends 'a good reputation, good partners, good training and good career prospects' making it a satisfying choice. Stephens Scown in Exeter offers its trainees the 'best of both worlds' as they have 'the opportunity to be involved in top-quality exciting work whilst living an active Cornish lifestyle'. The second US firm to make the top ten, K&L Gates makes an impact on trainees with its 'ambition to grow' and they are further delighted by the 'good quality work' at this international firm. For Burges Salmon trainees it is all about reputation as it is the 'top firm in the Bristol market', plus the fact that the firm boasts 'top-notch' household names as clients is also very appealing.
